The renovation of an apartment building at 42 Brativ Mikhnovskyh
ДетальнішеThe new apartment is located on Mykolaychuk Street. It has already accommodated 7 patients of the UNBROKEN Ukraine center, who, due to their health, can live outside the hospital and undergo rehabilitation. Among the patients are people with disabilities, so the housing was made completely accessible and free of charge.
This is a temporary housing for people who were injured in the war. Here they will be able to live while they wait for the manufacture of a prosthesis or go through the first acute period of social adaptation, when the hospital needs to be visited only for procedures. In addition, the housing is aimed at developing a mutually supportive community, helping with job search, engaging in activities and socializing residents.
The first building, financed by the European Union and implemented under the management of NEFCO, has 24 apartments on six floors. Four of them are one-room, and the rest are two-room. Each apartment has a kitchen and a bathroom. Inside, everything is fully equipped for people with disabilities: people with prostheses who use crutches or a wheelchair, as well as for people with visual impairments. Each apartment has an emergency call button for the administrator.
In total, more than 60 people will be able to temporarily live in the first building – these are people undergoing rehabilitation at the UNBROKEN center and their relatives. Those patients who are not local (not from Lviv or the Lviv region) and whose health condition allows them to live outside the hospital without 24-hour medical support are settled here. Here they will undergo social adaptation. A common space will be arranged in the shelter of the building. And there will be a public space for events on the terrace.
For the needs of the residents of the building, one of the public transport routes in Lviv has been extended. For example, buses number 46 now run to the Holoskivsky cemetery and have 4 additional stops, including near social housing and the Center for Prosthetics and Orthotics.
“This is a very good example of how our European partners, regional administration and local governments can quickly form a high-quality project. I am sure that it will become a good example for what we plan to launch with the support of the European Union – the construction of social municipal housing. And this project shows how this can be implemented in a fairly short time, involving local governments that take the lead in this context,” said Natalia Kozlovska, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
In total, 8 houses for 700 people will be built on Mykolaychuk Street. The EU-supported project “Housing for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the Restoration of Liberated Cities in Ukraine” is financed by the European Union and implemented under the management of NEFCO. The European Commission allocated 19.5 million euros in grant funds for the construction of social housing. And the city laid communications at its own expense.
