09 Jun 2025

The Honorary Consulate of Iceland has officially opened in the center of Lviv. It will cover four regions of western Ukraine: Lviv, Volyn, Ternopil, and Rivne. Ukrainian diplomat Andrii Deshchytsia has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Iceland in Lviv.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iceland to Ukraine, Fridrik Jonsson. He emphasized Lviv’s importance as a strategic hub for international cooperation and noted that the city already has a cooperation agreement with the Icelandic capital, Reykjavík. According to the Ambassador, Lviv’s geography, its international engagement, and the trusted figure of the new consul were key factors in the decision to establish the consulate in the city.

“We see many opportunities for deepening cooperation between Iceland and Ukraine. Currently, our collaboration focuses primarily on issues related to the full-scale invasion – humanitarian, economic, and military matters. But we would like to expand the areas of cooperation,” stated Fridrik Jonsson.

During the opening, participants also highlighted cooperation with the Icelandic company Össur, which supports the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center in Lviv by providing prosthetics for Ukrainians injured in the war. As part of the visit to Lviv, Andrii Deshchytsia and Fridrik Jonsson, together with Andrii Pavliv, Head of the Investment and Projects Office of the Lviv City Council, visited the UNBROKEN Rehabilitation Center.

The Honorary Consulate of Iceland is located at 3 Ruska Street, Lviv.
