ДетальнішеThe Lviv City Council has signed a contract for the purchase of 48 modern low-floor buses for the city. This procurement is made possible thanks to a loan from the European Investment Bank, which Lviv has been awaiting since 2018.
The contract was signed on September 10 at the City Hall by Volodymyr Budzan, Director of “Electron Mash,” and Serhiy Klymchuk, Director of Lviv Municipal Bus Enterprise (ATP-1).
“For me, it is very important that, even during the war, a Ukrainian enterprise receives orders. This way, people have jobs, and the community receives high-quality transport. Currently, budget funds are directed to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while loan funds and funds from international partners are invested in the city’s development,” said Andriy Sadovyy, Lviv City Mayor, during the signing.
The buses will be manufactured by the Lviv-based company “Electron,” which continues to operate despite shelling and missile strikes. Thus, in addition to updating the city’s transport, the order supports local business and provides jobs for thousands of Lviv residents.
The new 12-meter buses will have Euro-6 standard engines and are designed to carry 100 passengers.
Key features include:
Low floors and a folding ramp for passengers with disabilities;
Specially equipped seats for wheelchair users with safety belts;
Air conditioning in both the passenger cabin and driver’s cabin;
Ventilation, heating, and sound insulation for comfortable travel in any season.
“The intentions to implement this project were declared back in 2018. The project is being carried out using loan funds. We recently received approval from the European Investment Bank to proceed, so now we can start producing 48 new low-floor Euro-6 buses. This is very important for renewing the fleet of ATP-1 and improving the quality of transport services for our community,” said Oleh Zabarylo, Director of the Department of City Mobility and Street Infrastructure of Lviv.
The last time Lviv purchased buses from “Electron” was in 2019. The cost of one bus is approximately €300,000, and the city will repay the loan over 10 years.
“I thank Lviv for supporting national manufacturers. This support gives hope to our employees—21,000 people. Today’s agreement allows us to produce modern, technologically advanced, and environmentally friendly buses. For the first time in Ukraine, we are using Euro-6 engines, which meet all European standards. Moreover, this transport is very convenient, safe, and comfortable for all passengers. Cities across Ukraine need this kind of transport today,” said Yuriy Bubis, President of PJSC “Electron Concern.”
Despite the challenges of war, Lviv is systematically updating its transport:
Over the past four years, the city received 60 buses from partners, which were provided to the Armed Forces, communities affected by the aggression, and municipal enterprises;
Thanks to cooperation with European cities, Lviv received 11 trams from Bern, 12 from Berlin, and 22 from Basel-Landschaft (33 in total);
Using loan funds, 10 new five-section “Electron” trams were purchased, and 11 trolleybuses were modernized;
Private carriers updated around 100 Euro-5 buses;
ATP-1 purchased 10 medium-class buses and updated the fleet on routes No. 20 and No. 37.
The procurement of 48 new buses will be another step in the development of sustainable urban mobility in Lviv.
