Lviv to Deepen Cooperation with Slovenia: First Agreements Reached at the Slovenia–Ukraine Recovery and Reconstruction Forum
28 May 2025

From May 28 to 30, Lviv hosted the Slovenia–Ukraine Forum on Recovery and Reconstruction, which brought together over 80 participants — representatives of municipalities, government officials, and diplomats from both countries. The forum served as a platform to strengthen international municipal partnerships, discuss post-war recovery strategies, and enhance community resilience through cooperation in medicine, digitalization, education, and local governance.

As part of the forum, a meeting of Slovenian and Ukrainian mayors took place at Lviv City Hall. Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyy presented the city’s wartime priorities and expressed gratitude to Slovenian partners for ongoing cooperation, including the construction of a biogas plant supported by the Slovenian company Riko.

“War leaves us no time to hesitate — we must act quickly. We are rebuilding the city with a focus on accessibility, developing rehabilitation services, prosthetics production, social housing for soldiers, and support for their families. Lviv is actively cooperating with European cities, and Slovenia’s experience is particularly valuable,” said Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyy.

The Slovenian delegation was led by Edvin Skrt, Director-General of the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. He praised Lviv’s achievements despite the war and emphasized Slovenia’s readiness to continue supporting Ukrainian communities.

“Together we are stronger. Slovenia is already involved in development projects in your city, and we are ready to share our experience — especially in healthcare. The European Union supports Ukraine, and we will do everything we can to protect people’s dignity and lives,” emphasized Edvin Skrt.

The forum also included visits to the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center, a lecture by a Member of the European Parliament at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, and a symbolic football match. The event showcased meaningful partnership, exchange of expertise, and Slovenia’s continued support for Ukraine.
