Second Japanese Business Mission Visited Lviv as Part of Japan Desk Lviv
06 Nov 2025

Japanese businesses are strengthening cooperation with Lviv-based entrepreneurs. As part of the Japan Desk Lviv service operating in the Lviv City Council, a second delegation of Japanese business representatives visited the city. This time, the delegation included representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), companies from the fields of energy-efficient solutions, consulting, major logistics and construction corporations, manufacturers of 3D-printed prosthetics, and producers of eco-friendly finishing materials.

During the business seminar held at the Lviv City Council within the Japan Desk Lviv service, each Japanese company presented its activities and met with representatives of nearly three dozen local Lviv companies, organizations, educational institutions, and medical facilities.

The following companies visited Lviv: Japan ESCO Co., Ltd., specializing in the implementation of energy efficiency projects (ESCO); PADECO Co., Ltd., an international consulting company working in the fields of international development: infrastructure, transport, urban planning, education, climate, and environment; Tagawa Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Shikkui Labs), a producer of natural lime-based finishing materials (plaster, tiles, ecological coatings); Nippon Express GmbH & Co. KG, the European branch of a Japanese logistics corporation providing logistics, transportation, warehousing, and international delivery services; Instalimb Inc., a Japanese startup developing 3D-printed prosthetics using AI and CAD technologies; Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s largest construction corporations engaged in building residential, commercial, and logistics facilities, as well as energy sector development.

The Japanese delegation visited the Field of Honor for fallen Heroes at Lychakiv Cemetery, the UNBROKEN Centre, the prosthetics workshop, several Ukrainian companies, and also met with the Mayor of Lviv. Andriy Sadovyi spoke about the key areas of the city’s development under the conditions of Russia’s full-scale aggression and presented the UNBROKEN humanity ecosystem being developed in Lviv.

“Japanese culture inspires me. As you know, Lviv has developed good cooperation with Japanese businesses — we have opened the Japan Desk in Lviv, and our city is open to collaboration. We need a deeper understanding of your culture and your business vision. Many companies from the eastern regions relocated to Lviv after the full-scale invasion, and we are seeing GDP growth during the war. Today, Lviv is safer than most Ukrainian cities. We receive the wounded from different regions. We are developing the UNBROKEN humanity ecosystem: a large hospital, rehabilitation center, prosthetics workshop, UNBROKEN SPORT, UNBROKEN ART. And together with Shigeru Ban, a renowned Japanese architect, we are designing a new surgical unit,” said Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyy.

“It is a great honor to speak to you today. This is already our sixth mission to Ukraine and our second visit to Lviv. I want to thank all stakeholders for this opportunity. We highly value our cooperation and aim to continue strengthening partnerships between Japanese and Ukrainian companies. We are also looking for ways to support the Ukrainian army. We have two programs with a budget of about 180 million dollars each. We have already adapted more than 40 projects, including in the medical field, construction sector, demining, and others. Some of these projects are also being developed in Lviv. We believe that Lviv plays an important role as a link between the European and Ukrainian markets,” noted Toshiyuki Shirai, Director, Trade Policy Bureau – Division for European Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Tomahiro Yoden, Deputy General Director of JETRO in Warsaw, received a token of appreciation from the Mayor and the community of Lviv.

“Thank you for supporting Ukraine and Lviv. I want you to know that you are an important partner for our city. Together with colleagues and the government, we are building a strong bridge between Ukraine and Japan. Thank you for our joint work,” emphasized Andriy Sadovyy.

This meeting was the result of the work carried out by the Japan Desk Lviv service, launched by the city earlier this year to provide personalized support for Japanese companies in Lviv: from advising on investment or business establishment to partner search and full familiarization with the local economic environment. The service operates within the of Investment and Projects Office.
