The International Finance Corporation became a consultant for the UNBROKEN new surgical building project
15 Oct 2025

During a working visit to the USA, Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyy signed an agreement with the International Financial Corporation IFC – part of the World Bank group. IFC will help Lviv implement the project of a new surgical complex in the UNBROKEN ecosystem, where more than 25,000 wounded Ukrainians have already been treated.

Details of project preparation

The international corporation will help prepare and structure the public-private partnership project, as well as attract up to 50% of funding in the form of grants from international donors.

A feasibility study (FEA) is being prepared by Deloitte with funding from the Swedish fund Swedfund, which has provided a grant of $400,000.

Completion of preparations is planned by the end of 2025, and the start of construction is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, following the selection of a private partner.

On the part of the Lviv City Council, the project is coordinated by the Investment and Projects Office (Invest in Lviv), the Legal Department, and the First Medical Association of Lviv.

«It is important for us not just to build a building, but to create a space that heals. It’s about architecture, humanity, and trust», – Andriy Sadovyy emphasized.

The architectural solution of the new building is developed by ABMK together with the famous Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, winner of the Pritzker Prize. The future surgical building will be an architectural landmark of our time – combining technology, accessibility, and warmth of space for patients.

The importance of the project

UNBROKEN is not just a medical center but a complete recovery ecosystem that brings together doctors, architects, donors, and citizens. The signing of the agreement with IFC is further evidence that Lviv is becoming a center of recovery in Ukraine, where international cooperation is leading to real changes for people.

The new surgical building will allow more operations, prosthetics, rehabilitation programs and psychological support – all in one space created with care for people.
