Lviv’s twin city of Wrocław has been providing PLN 1
ДетальнішеIn Lviv, repairs to Mazepy Street will begin in mid-December. This is one of the city’s key infrastructure projects, which should improve accessibility to nearby medical facilities and the UNBROKEN ecosystem of humanity. The work involves widening the carriageway, installing two dedicated lanes and island stops for public transport, convenient infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, parking spaces, and landscaping areas.
The reconstruction will be carried out within the framework of a larger project that includes Mazepy Street and Grinchenko Street and is co-financed by the European Investment Bank. The contract for the work was signed today, November 25, by the head of the Lvivavtodor LKP Mykola Vlasyuk and the head of the Representative Office of the Onur contracting company Ibas Ilhami Tufan.
The work will be carried out in stages and initially – outside the carriageway and, accordingly, without blocking traffic.
Thus, from mid-December, repairs will begin on Mazepy Street near the city’s medical and rehabilitation institutions – on the section from Mykolaychuk Street to Orlyka Street. Further from Orlyka Street – to the Spartak Shopping Center. The total length of these sections is about 1.4 km. The next stages are the section from Mykolaychuk Street to Grinchenko Street and Grinchenko Street itself.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi emphasized the social mission of the project and the importance of creating accessible infrastructure in this location.
“Now there are many people with disabilities and we need to radically address the situation with infrastructure, accessibility, and high-quality communication in our city. Currently, we cannot use community funds for large infrastructure projects, because we direct them mainly to support our Armed Forces. The only option to improve infrastructure and help people in need is cooperation with international organizations,” emphasized Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
“The city’s priority is to help our military and civilians who have suffered from the war. A lot of Ukrainians come to medical facilities located in the area of Mykolaychuk Street — these are the large city hospitals of St. Panteleimon and St. Nicholas and in general the entire UNBROKEN rehabilitation system. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the accessibility of this location,” emphasized the First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Moskalenko.
The work will begin outside the carriageway so as not to block traffic. In particular, engineering networks, sidewalks and traffic lanes will be equipped. And in the future, they promise to organize the work in such a way as to minimize inconvenience to residents.
“Due to the fact that we are expanding the street from 2 to 4 lanes, much work will be carried out outside the current carriageway. Then we will work on the sections between the intersections so that the entrances to medical and other institutions are passable. And then we will close the intersections for a short period of time to connect all sections,” said the Head of LKP “Lvivavtodor” Mykola Vlasyuk.
As noted by Oleg Zabarylo, Director of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure of the Lviv Regional Government, Mazepy and Grinchenko Streets will be reconstructed according to the principle of “a street for all”, so they will become more convenient and safer for all road users.
“Currently, almost all transport connections to UNBROKEN go through Mazepa Street. And there are very often traffic jams there. The arrangement of additional lanes, in particular for public transport, will solve this issue. Ambulances will also be able to pass this section faster. In general, repair work on both streets will be carried out according to the basic principle of “a street for all”, so comfortable sidewalks, bicycle paths, lanes for public and private transport, and parking spaces are provided there,” said Oleg Zabarylo.
The official added that the implementation of the entire project will last 18 months and involves the reconstruction of the road infrastructure of Mazepa and Grinchenko streets with a total length of 2.64 km. The total cost of the work is 15.5 million euros including VAT – of which more than 9 million euros are allocated by the EIB, the rest is co-financed by the city.
“It is a great honor for me to see the start of this project, which shows that our partnership is strong, alive and already has results. Lviv is a winner in many of our projects and you are confidently moving forward. High-quality infrastructure that meets European standards is also a step that brings you closer to membership in the European Union,” said Kristina Mikulova, Head of the Regional Representation of the European Investment Bank in Eastern Europe.
