A new state-of-the-art production line by Carlsberg Ukraine has been launched in Lviv, with a capacity of 40,000 cans per hour. The line produces not only beer but also non-alcoholic beverages, expanding both production capabilities and product range.
This launch represents one of the company’s largest investment projects in Ukraine during the full-scale war and sends a strong signal of confidence from international business in the city. The production line was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Lviv together with Carlsberg Group CEO Jakob Aarup-Andersen, who visited Lviv for the first time.
The investment in the new production line amounts to UAH 610 million (approximately €12 million) and was implemented over one and a half years. The new line increases the production capacity of the Lviv brewery by 38% and improves energy efficiency.
“The canning line has a capacity of around 40,000 cans per hour. Launching production in Lviv is an important signal of support for Ukrainian business from Denmark and Carlsberg Group as a whole. From now on, ‘Lvivske’ beer in cans will be produced directly in Lviv — previously, this production was based in Kyiv,” said Yurii Huk, Director of the Lviv Brewery.
Jakob Aarup-Andersen noted that this was his first visit to Lviv and shared his impressions:
“This is my first visit to Lviv. The city is truly beautiful — its architecture reminds me of Paris or Rome, and the energy of the people here is incredible. I am very happy to be here.”
He also emphasized that the company continues to invest in Ukraine:
“This is an important signal not only for us but also for international investors: Ukraine is a place where it is possible and worthwhile to invest, even under challenging conditions.”
According to Inna Svystun, Director of the Economic Development Department of the Lviv City Council, the project will also have a positive impact on the city:
“This is a positive development for Lviv, as the city will receive additional budget revenues. Carlsberg is one of the largest taxpayers — last year alone, the company contributed over UAH 25 million to the city budget. These are resources that help support, among other things, Ukraine’s Armed Forces.”
About Carlsberg Ukraine
Carlsberg Ukraine is the largest Danish business in Ukraine and one of the country’s leading foreign investors. The company operates three breweries — in Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Kyiv — employs over 1,400 people, and supports more than 23,000 jobs in related sectors such as agriculture, trade, logistics, and hospitality.
All production is based entirely on Ukrainian raw materials.
The company is also actively engaged in humanitarian and social initiatives, supporting the reconstruction of housing, medical and social infrastructure, including hospitals, universities, and residential buildings. Carlsberg joined the “Take Care of a Building” initiative and allocated UAH 2.6 million to restore a residential building damaged in September 2024, becoming one of the first businesses to support this effort.
Carlsberg has fully exited the russian market.
A key strategic focus is also the support of the UNBROKEN ecosystem in Lviv, including funding for prosthetics, rehabilitation equipment, training of medical professionals, psychological support, as well as adaptive sports and veteran programs.
“This is an important sign of support for Ukrainian business and Ukraine as a whole from Denmark and Carlsberg Group. We are also grateful for the humanitarian support, particularly for UNBROKEN and other medical and rehabilitation centers that are critically important for our community,” said Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi.
Following the official launch, the delegation visited Lviv City Council, where the CEO met with the Mayor, signed the book of honorary guests, and was presented with the city’s development plans, key projects, and future vision.
