The Lviv City Council has approved the attraction by Lviv Municipal Enterprise “Lvivvodokanal” of a €3.198 million loan and a €600,000 grant from the European Investment Bank (EIB), backed by a municipal guarantee. The funds will be used to reconstruct the main water pipeline running from the Budzen II Water Pumping Station to the Budzen III Water Pumping Station near the village of Bartativ.

The project is being implemented as part of the “Ukraine Water Recovery” programme. Its main objective is to modernise the community’s water supply system, improve its reliability, reduce the frequency of emergencies, and ensure a stable supply of high-quality drinking water.

The total project cost exceeds €3.8 million, with implementation expected to take up to two years.

“The project involves the reconstruction of 4.4 kilometres of an ageing and emergency-prone main water pipeline. To secure this project, Lvivvodokanal went through several stages of selection to qualify for preferential financing from the European Investment Bank. Today, the city’s decision to provide a municipal guarantee confirms its commitment and is a necessary step towards securing this financing,” said Andriy Pavliv, Head of the Investment and Projects Office of the Lviv City Council.

Once the reconstruction is completed, approximately 125,000 Lviv residents and internally displaced persons are expected to benefit from more reliable and higher-quality water supply. The project is also expected to save up to 60,000 cubic metres of water per month by reducing losses across the network, according to Dmytro Vankovych, Director of Lvivvodokanal:

“This main water pipeline has been in operation for more than 60 years and is currently in critical condition. The number of emergencies has increased significantly in recent years. The project will improve the reliability of water supply for approximately 125,000 residents, reduce water losses and significantly lower the risk of pipeline failures. We expect to begin implementation of the project as early as next year.”
