The French government will allocate a €5 million grant for setting up a new tram route from Mykolaichuka Street to the UNBROKEN Ukraine rehabilitation center. This is the result of the joint work of the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Lviv City Council in Lviv. The project also includes the reconstruction of Mykolaichuka Street with the addition of a public transport lane.

Axel Nos, Head of the AFD office in Ukraine, and Arnaud Desmarchelier, a senior engineer from the Paris office, thoroughly examined all technical and financial aspects of this project. They also met with the heads of relevant municipal departments and visited the tram depot, the Traffic Control Center, and the Passenger Service Center. They reviewed transport infrastructure projects, including “Tram to Sykhiv” and “Shevchenko Street,” to gather as much information as possible for deciding on participation in the project.

AFD is a state institution that provides financial and technical assistance to developing countries for their sustainable development and poverty reduction. AFD implements projects in various sectors, including health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, water supply, energy, and the environment. AFD funds and supports about 4,000 projects in 115 countries. In July 2024, AFD opened an office in Kyiv. Following two loans to support Ukraine in 2022, AFD will continue to provide funding for sustainable development activities in Ukraine. AFD also plans to support Ukraine in responding to the emergencies caused by the war.
