Lviv Expands Economic Cooperation with Germany
05 Feb 2026

A series of meetings with representatives of the German Embassy in Ukraine and German partners took place in Lviv, focusing on strengthening economic and business cooperation between the city and German companies.

In particular, together with representatives of the IRON Tech Cluster, the parties discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation between Ukrainian and German manufacturers. Alexander Ernst, Head of the Trade and Economic Affairs Department at the German Embassy in Ukraine, emphasized the importance of building direct and long-term business connections between companies from the two countries.

During a meeting with Serhii Kiral, Deputy Mayor of Lviv for International Cooperation, the city’s economic potential was presented and new partnership formats were discussed. Among the ideas considered was the creation of a dedicated office in Lviv to support German companies, similar to the Japan Desk, which already operates to assist Japanese businesses.

Lisa Heike, Policy Advisor at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, also joined the discussion. She highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation and the important role of partnerships between cities.

Lviv already maintains an extensive network of cooperation with German cities, including Freiburg, Würzburg, Frankfurt, Murnau am Staffelsee, and Greifswald, as well as the federal state of North Rhine–Westphalia.

In addition, the city actively cooperates with German organizations and companies such as Ottobock, Crowd Invest Ukraine, GIZ Ukraine, Denk Kunststofftechnik, DAHW Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe e.V., and HelpChain. Many of these partnerships are involved in implementing projects within the UNBROKEN ecosystem.

According to the Lviv City Council, strengthening cooperation with German partners is part of a broader strategy to attract international business and investment to the city.
