On 12 February in Lviv, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine, Neil Crompton, officially opened the Office of the British Embassy in Lviv. The opening ceremony was attended by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy. The office will represent the United Kingdom in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Volyn, Rivne, Zakarpattia, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi regions.

The temporary Embassy office in Lviv, which had been operating since February 2022, has now been relaunched as a permanent Office in Lviv. It will be headed by Svitlana Yavorska.

The Office of the British Embassy in Lviv will strengthen the United Kingdom’s engagement with local authorities, civil society, and regional partners in western Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine, Neil Crompton, paid his first visit to Lviv and held meetings with representatives of the city council. The discussions focused on expanding partnerships in the fields of defence technologies, medical innovations, and high value-added manufacturing.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy noted that opening a British Embassy office in Lviv had been an important idea for him for twenty years — and now it has become a reality.

Meanwhile, UK Ambassador Neil Crompton emphasized the symbolic importance of the event and shared his personal impressions:

“It is my first time in Lviv, and I am glad that my first visit is connected with such an important event for our countries.”

Lviv already has strategic ties with several British cities, including Manchester, Liverpool, and York. Manchester and Liverpool became co-founders of the UNBROKEN Cities Network, an international initiative that brings together cities from around the world to support and develop rehabilitation efforts in Ukraine.

Another area of cooperation is industrial development. The concept of the municipal industrial park “Formatsia.Lviv” was developed with the support of the Good Governance Fund (UK Aid), while its implementation was carried out by Abt Britain and the Kyiv School of Economics, focusing on improving the business climate and attracting investors.

The Lviv City Council emphasizes that the opening of the permanent Office of the British Embassy in Lviv is not only a diplomatic step but also a strong signal of trust in the city and the region, which since 2022 have become one of the key centers of international cooperation and support for Ukraine.
