Lviv Strengthens Cooperation with JICA: New Projects and Investments
19 Mar 2026

A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Head of the Ukraine Office Osamu Hattori, met at Lviv City Hall with Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyy, Deputy Mayor for International Cooperation Serhii Kiral, and the team of the Investment and Projects Office of Lviv City Council (Invest in Lviv).

During the meeting, the city presented a number of priority projects for potential cooperation. In particular, the delegation was introduced to the project for the construction of a surgical building within the UNBROKEN ecosystem. This is one of Lviv’s key medical initiatives, with the architectural design developed with the involvement of renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban.

The delegation also visited M10 Lviv Industrial Park — the first industrial park in Ukraine to receive war risk insurance from the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). This provides additional guarantees for investors and demonstrates the feasibility of launching protected manufacturing even during wartime.

Among the examples of already implemented cooperation are Japanese investments in the development of vocational education in Lviv, as well as projects in the field of social infrastructure. In particular, the Japanese company Daiwa House is implementing a housing project in Lviv for cancer patients — a dedicated space for patients undergoing treatment and their families.

More than EUR 200,000 has been allocated to modernize two vocational schools, where modern equipment for automotive electronics has been installed. The project was implemented with the support of the Government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Fujikura Automotive Ukraine. Students undergo practical training and gain employment opportunities within the company.
